One of the first questions patients considering medical cannabis therapy ask is about cost. Unlike many other prescription medicines, the answer here is clear: the patient pays the full amount.

No NFZ reimbursement

Medical cannabis products are currently not covered by reimbursement from the National Health Fund (NFZ). An Rpw prescription for such a product is therefore a fully paid (100%) prescription — the NFZ does not subsidize it.

Approximate cost

Prices for medical cannabis flower vary between pharmacies and strains, but typically start at around 50–60 PLN per gram. The flower is available in standard packages, most often 5 g, 10 g, or 15 g — the exact price and availability of a specific strain depends on the pharmacy, so it's worth checking in advance, for example in our pharmacy database.

How long one prescription lasts

An Rpw prescription is usually valid for 30 days from issue, and the doctor can prescribe an amount covering up to 90 days of therapy — which helps reduce the number of follow-up visits.

Could the costs change

There is ongoing public and legislative discussion about regulating the medical cannabis market in Poland, which could affect availability and pricing in the future. For now, however, it's worth planning therapy with the full, non-reimbursed cost in mind.
